Is it easy to transfer onto the IntimateRider?
If you can transfer in and out of a car or on and off a standard height toilet seat you should be able to transfer on and off to the IntimateRider. It helps to position the unit close to the bed or something you can use for support if you need to. The seat is short so you will want to take it slow. We have many quadriplegics who can transfer by themselves who use it with ease
How much will I actually use the IntimateRider?
Hopefully a lot. Of course it depends on how much you decide to use it. We find that couples often plan a "Ride Time" once a week or so. It is so easy to use and it gives couples a chance to do something different. It is common for couples to use it a lot a first and experiment and discover what they like. Often a few favorite positions are the ones used most often. The IntimateRider gives couples a way to talk about and share desires that are often hard to talk about. Couples use fun terms like "lets ride" and ??????. The IntimateRider will help rekindle intimacy.
How does the IntimateRider work?
The magic is the combination of seat height, seat depth and the geometry of the gliding action. It was designed by a C6-C7 quadriplegic with limited arm movement and no trunk or leg muscle control. If you can brace your arm against your leg, your partner's body or something next to you, the IntimateRider will move with very little pushing effort causing your pelvis to move for easy thrusting. It's important to position your legs so they bend at the knees and your partner's body helps keep them stable.
Is it stable?
It is very stable once you are in the unit it was designed to be very difficult to tip over. You must be careful during the transfer because it is a short seat.
I am a quadriplegic. Will I be able to use it?
It depends on your level of injury and your ability to transfer. Some arm movement is necessary to stabilize yourself and to get into motion.
I am a woman in a wheelchair. Can I use it?
Women can enjoy new movements and positions on the IntimateRider as well as men. Simply transfer onto the IntimateRider and have your partner kneel in front of you and let the motions begin.
Is it easy to move?
It is designed to move very easily and it takes very little effort. You can move it for hours and not get tired. (we don't advise hours of use unless you are practicing for the Sexual Olympics) It's like sitting in a rocking chair.
I am concerned about pressure sores. What would you suggest?
Everything in moderation. We would not advise spending hours on the IntimateRider. You should not use the IntimateRider if you have a pressure sore as this may irritate it more. If your bottom is healthy and you are using a Rider Cushion you should have no problem. We advise using it for only a few minutes the first few times and then inspect to see if you are experiencing any redness or discomfort and discontinue use is there is a problem.
Will I get abrasions if I use this?
With normal use you should not get abrasions because your bottom should not be sliding because your back is supported. It is the bearings and the gliding action doing the work. You would have to be extremely aggressive to experience any abrasions.
I am tall. Will my legs get in the way?
The IntimateRider height can be adjusted to accommodate most individuals of all heights in all positions and there are positions that height will not matter at all.
