It's like an iced-water jug crossed with a little fountain. You fill the box with ice and water. A little pump in the lid circulates the cold water through a hose and into a pad (that looks like felt-covered bubble wrap) that wraps around your shoulder (or knee, etc.) and fastens with velcro straps. It will stay cold for 2-3 hours and is very comfortable.
It kept the inflammation in my shoulder to a minimum, and as inflammation can increase your pain, I slept better, which means I healed more quickly, which meant I was off the heavy painkillers sooner than expected. I even slept with this on my shoulder! It also helped during physical therapy by keeping the swelling and discomfort down throughout. Now I'm four days out of surgery on my other shoulder, and once again my trusty polar cube is helping with the inflammation and pain! If you have surgery on any joint or ligament, ask your doc to prescribe one of these. Most insurance companies will pay at least part of the cost.>p> And of course, always follow your surgeon's post-op care instructions, and complete your physical therapy! It doesn't matter how good your surgeon is; if you don't finish your physical therapy, you won't have the best outcome."
